Gnomes (2010)

The characters went through a series of development and experimentation. Initial stages saw the Gnomes as more rag doll characters.

Final stages of development: the characters were now at a completely new, as in hooded suits. Class feedback was very positive on this set of designs and futher refinement was added to Lady Gnome to make the Gnomes feel part of a collectable set:

Each of the characters then went through individual futher refinement to finese shape and proportions and start establishing character poses/traits:

The final trio; Macho, Hero and Lady Gnome

Prop concepts for the film with watercolour test colourings to establish the feel for the film.

Character Expression sheets were worked on thoroughly so each modeller new the exact blends required for the film

Establishing the mood: colour scripts and environment concepts to give the painted world look to the film:

Prop Models:

Character model: Lady Gnome - smooth preview.

Texture Creation: Paint splattered textures were then created in photoshop and added to the models

John and Benny (2009)

Character Designs: Initially the story concept began with badly behaved clowns and developed into a piece evolved around a married Mr and Mrs clown. Eventually the creation of John the depressed clown was born out of a slightly disturbing cone headed scowling sketch that emerged one afternoon. John and Benny was born.

There was a lot of positive response from the class around the pointy headed creation which was developed further into a grumpy guy who just hated his job.

Storyboards: The wonderful thing about John and Benny was the amount of story possibilities due to its simple premiss of a overly happy child and a clown who hated exactly that. The setting of the circus provided us with a fun playground of torture.

Colour Concepts: The circus is a bright and colourful place and one we wanted to bring a distinct crafted look too to work alongside the designs. Hand painted oil textures were created for all the sets and characters to give depth and a slightly cracked, distressed feel to the environment.

Post Apocalyptic (2008)

Modelling: This was our first project in Maya and was a great chance to experiment whilst getting to grips with the software. My section of the destroyed road mainly came from my head and playing with booleans rather than working from drawings. I am still proud of what I achieved in this first project.

Occlusion Renders: The finished section of my modelling in occlusion.
Animation: This was my first chance to animate in Maya. Our spiders needed to reflect both a robotic nature but also bring some humour to the piece from interaction with the set pieces. It was a great challenge to get to grips with an alien quad walk cycle and make it believable.

The environment textured: Texturing by Yaniv Garber and Daniel Grigsby
